Ear worms and cosplaying mice…

I feel sometimes as though I’m in cloud cuckoo land. I’m lucky enough that I have endless support in my crafting adventures from a very patient husband. He listens to me rattling on about nonsense on a regular basis and smiles and nods. I know he’s really going through guitar chords in his head but it’s the thought that counts.

I’ve made a few more butterfly catchers, another beekeeper but I’m always looking to make something different.

This week my little mouse making adventures has taken me down a whole new avenue.

Cosplay.

For those of you not in the know, its this…

noun
  1. 1.
the practice of dressing up as a character from a film, book, or video game, especially one from the Japanese genres of manga or anime.

I spent most of Friday making a start on my accounts. April and May are already gone and I have a lot of receipts floating around. I do not want to wait till next year, having a mad panic so I downloaded Quickbooks and set to work. 3 hours later, I kid you not, I’m only halfway through. I had to take a break.

I’ve introduced the husband to The Walking Dead. Having seen it all the way through three times, it was bugging him what I found so great about it. Friday night I knew we were due to get to the episode that introduced Negan. I love Negan. Well, to be accurate, I love Jeffery Dean Morgan and have ever since he was Sam & Dean Winchester’s dad in Supernatural.

What better way to relax than making a Negan Mouse…..or rather a Cosplaying Mouse who likes Negan.

The ideas are coming thick and fast now 🙂

If you are interested in any of my mice, you can find them at my Etsy Shop

P.S I’m sorry for putting Easy Street into your head…..

I should have started sketching years ago…

I mean, I’ve always doodled or drawn, whether it’s quick sketches or filling in a notepad page while chatting on the phone but with my work, I tend to just have an idea in my head and go from there. Most of my birds have taken shape properly, after a third or fourth pattern attempt. But recently, after making several little birds with butterfly applique, I had the grand idea of trying to put my little birds onto a stamp and using that for lavender bags. This idea hasn’t panned out, although I still have the Speedball linocut block at the ready, just in case.

I was sketching and colouring in one of my birds when I started sketching a mouse.

And the rest they say…is history. I have been having a blast, working on improving the shapes, making the bases neater and easier. I’ve also improved the shape I think.

I really thought this would be it but my brain has been working overtime and I’ve been adding more and more work to these little mice, giving them real characters. Here’s a few of the most popular ones.

Last but not least, I also made some small Angel Mice. These lovely little mice were so nice to make and it was a really special thing for me to know that they were bought by people as reminders or gifts for people who had lost loved family or friends.

I’ll add these to my portfolio page and will continue to do so as I add more variations. If you are interested in any of my mice or birds but can’t see any on my Etsy shop, please send me a message on my FB page and I’ll see what I can do . Some of these mice sell very quickly, within a

Have a great weekend x

I finally finished the Hummingbird……

She’s now available on Ebay – and she will start at £65 for seven days.

I’m totally in love with her, she is really lovely. I can’t seem to capture just how nice she is in the flesh so to speak. The camera just doesn’t do it justice. Enjoy 🙂

A few answers…..

To the many questions I have received lately about my birds. I spent the weekend making a kingfisher and he’s proved so popular that I’ve been inundated with requests for him. Right now, he’s the only one and if I was to price him based on the amount of hours that went into him he’d be very, very expensive. I’m going to refine the ‘make’ so that he takes less time and I can make him more accessible to more of you.

‘How can I buy your birds?’

At the moment I’m working on a commission only basis. Send me a message and let me know what you want and I’ll let you know if it’s possible and if I have any time to do it. I will try to get some stock together but right now it’s not happening.

‘How much are your birds?’

The small ones (from the pattern – which I purchased –  by Ann Wood – you can find this pattern on her website http://www.annwoodhandmade.com) are between £14 and £20 but I will be only making these when I have time and they will go straight onto my etsy shop.

The bridal couples are £55. P&P varies from £4.50 to £8 depending on size of box needed (and weight) – however these are made to order and I won’t be making any for the forseeable future.

The larger ones i.e Flamingo or Crane are upwards of £75 depending on individual birds.

Smaller birds from my own patterns and designs, with more embellishment are upwards of £50. Even though these birds are small, they have many, many hours of embellishment on them. Lots of tiny stitches and feathers take a long time to add but this makes every single bird completely unique.

Do you ship outside of the UK?

Yes, p&p will be different depending on where.

Do you make other animals?

No, at the moment, it’s just birds and bugs. This won’t change 🙂

All my creations are for decoration only and are NOT suitable for children, also please keep them away from your pets. Unless you want a hefty insurance bill when the vet has to remove wire legs from their intestinal tract 🙂

All birds are designed my myself unless stated when I sell them.
